My favourite baby knits
It’s been a while since I posted anything on here. I made this blog, had so many big plans and then got pregnant with our second child. Cue morning sickness, pelvic girdle pain and extreme fatigue and I really didn’t feel like writing. Honestly, I could barely do my job.
One thing I was able to do, though, was knit. Yay!
So on November 15 2023, when baby Vincent arrived, I was ready with a wardrobe filled with hand knitted baby clothes. Cuteness overload!
Here are my favourite patterns for baby knits:
Selma’s sleep suit by PetiteKnit
I knew I wanted to knit this one the moment I got a positive pregnancy test! I’ve seen so many cute pictures on Instagram of this sleep suit, and when we found out we were expecting, I bought the yarn for it immediately.
It’s perfect for our Danish winters, and it just looks super cute. I really liked the idea of a onesie that could keep the baby warm without overheating, and I generally find that merino wool is great for that. I knit Selma’s sleep suit in one strand of Lana Grossa Cool Wool Big.
The pattern comes in 5 sizes, and I knitted the smallest size, since we were having a winter baby. It was a bit big in the beginning, but that’s great since the little ones grow so fast. Our baby boy is nearing 3 months, and he’s almost grown out of it (at least his legs are a little too long now).
I will definitely be knitting another one for next winter size 1-2 years!

Yarn: Cool Wool Big by Lana Grossa
Gauge: 19 sts x 34 rows in garter stitch = 10 x 10 cm [4 x 4 inches], after blocking
Needles: 4 mm [US6]
Olive’s tights
I already knit the red and gray tights for Claire, before she was born, so I knew that I had to make more. They are the best! They are so great, I’ve had to mend the the gray ones with embroidery, because they had a hole in them since we used them so much.
This time around I wanted to make them more like pants than tights, so for the blue pair I knit for Vincent, I skipped the foot and finished with a simple rib. Very easy, very fast but still super cute and so useful.
I want to make more, but since these are knit on 3mm needles, I need to convince myself that it will be great (it just feels like forever knitting on needles that tiny). But the result is gorgeous and perfect for those chubby baby thighs.

Baby Bear Bonnet
This pattern is another one of those I’ve seen a million times on Instagram. I knew I had to knit this the moment I found out I was pregnant. I mean how cute is this bonnet! It’s adorable, simply adorable.
And not only is this too cute to be allowed, it’s also a super quick project. I knit this hat in 2 days. Such a fun little project that will actually keep your baby’s head and ears warm.
The instructions for this pattern bothered me a little, though, and I think I ended up just trying something that looked ok. But I have to say, that for a complete beginner this bonnet could be a challenge.

Nostalgia Cardigan
If you’re looking for a cute, free (!) cardigan pattern for your little sweetheart, I definitely recommend the Nostalgia Cardigan by Selfmade.
I love the details on the yoke, and even though it’s knit on 3 mm needles, it didn’t feel like it took forever. I did knit the smallest size, though, so it might take a little longer to knit for a bigger kid.
I used one strand of Drops Baby Merino. It’s a fan favourite when it comes to baby knits, and it makes perfect sense. It’s soft, washes well and is a joy to knit with. It also comes in almost every color imaginable, so there’s plenty to chose from.
